Solar Subscription
Subscribing to Solar
When you subscribe to solar with Tesla, you’ll pay a monthly rate for the use of a solar panel system that provides your home with clean energy directly from the sun. Subscribing to solar allows customers to go solar without the higher upfront costs of purchasing a solar panel system. Our subscriptions are priced regionally to reduce the average utility bill by more than the subscription’s monthly payment, meaning you can start saving immediately.
How Solar Subscription Works
The subscription process begins with you entering your address and monthly utility bill into our Design Studio, available at Tesla’s website. This information allows us to provide you with a recommended solar system size based on your average monthly energy usage, and how much sunlight you may receive at your home based on historic regional indexes. You can also manually select a different solar panel system size to compare your estimated monthly and 25-year savings.
Solar subscription customers pay a monthly rate that includes solar panels and other necessary hardware, installation and maintenance. Your monthly subscription rate depends on which of the four standard system sizes you choose to install. Learn more about the right solar system size for your home.
Subscription vs. Purchase
Tesla has multiple solar panel financing options available to help meet your needs. The decision to subscribe or purchase your system depends on your preferences as a homeowner and considerations such as how long you plan to stay in your home. You can change your financial payment options up until installation begins. Language contained in the contract, such as conditions, warranties and guarantees are specific to your contract type and cannot be altered.

Subscription Payments
Subscription payments are made once your system is powered on. Your deposit covers your first month of service. After that, your monthly payment will be processed on the anniversary of the date your system was activated.
You can cancel your subscription at any time with no cancellation fee. After cancellation, your solar panels will be deactivated and will remain on your roof until you choose to reactivate them or have them removed at a mutually agreeable time. If you would like your system removed, Tesla will perform the system removal work at your cost of $2,500 unless otherwise specified in your contract.

Adding More Panels to Your System
You have the option to upsize your system if you decide you want more solar panels after installation by entering into an updated Subscription Agreement. We do not currently offer an option to downsize your subscription system.
Selling Your Home
If you sell your home, you can transfer the agreement to the new homeowner or cancel the contract and pay to have the system removed prior to close of escrow.
Adding Powerwall
At this time, Powerwall cannot be added to the subscription agreement, however, you can purchase Powerwall separately. Add value to your solar subscription with a Powerwall that will provide backup power and greater energy independence.
